A Tribute To Richard Rodgers - Shirley JonesI WISH I WERE IN LOVE AGAIN
IT NEVER ENTERED MY MIND
ISN'T IT ROMANTIC
SPRING IS HERE
WHERE OR WHEN
I HAVE DREAMED
BLUE MOON
IT MIGHT AS WELL BE SPRING
FALLING IN LOVE WITH LOVE
BEWITCHED (BOTHERED AND BEWILDERED)

A Tribute To Richard Rodgers

When we first began discussing the possibility of doing a CD with Shirley I was very aware of her wonderful lyric soprano voice. As we spoke I soon became aware of just how deep and rich her speaking voice is. l heard the maturity and radiance that the years had brought. So, I asked how she felt about lowering her keys and singing in a more intimate style.
She told me she had never done that before. All the recording she had previously done was for movies or Broadway shows but she said she was game to try. We then started to discuss the repertoire and l recalled that she had been discovered by one of the greatest song writers in history, so, how about a tribute to Mr. Richard Rodgers? She agreed. Most of the work she had done with Mr. Rodgers was when he was writing with Oscar Hammerstein II.
I thought it might be nice to do some of the great work of Rodgers and Hart from an earlier period and songs that people weren't used to hearing Shirley sing. We approached the material from the standpoint of a mature woman who had experienced all that was present in Lorenz Hart's lyrics. Shirley is a wondrous talent to work with, open, daring, courageous and most of all fun. We all had a ball making this CD. I hope you enjoy the music and Shirley's wonderful performance.
Hats off to Rodgers & Hart, Shirley Jones, arranger John Raczka, The Band of Renown, engineers Ron Treat and Danny Stone, Gene Bicknell and the crew at the beautiful Mansion studios in Branson, Missouri for their generous contributions. Special thanks to Steve Marshall and the Chateau on the Lake in Branson for making Shirley feel so at home.
