Shulman is one of the youngest singers to study voice at the prestigious Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara.
Deborah has toured internationally with the group, Sunflight, teamed with singer Ann Jillian, touring as "Jillian and Shulman", and she has opened on national tours for musical stars like Johnnie Ray, Robert Goulet and Carol Lawrence.    Deborah has created many stage roles in local theatre, and done voiceover work for film and television. She is active in Equity-Fights-AIDS fundraisers, and premiered the "Requiem for the Victims of AIDS" in 1992 at All Saints Church in Pasadena. She performed Leonard Bernstein's "Arias and Barcarolles" at the Inaugural Concert for the Skirball Museum. Shulman also performed in "A Tribute to Sam Wanamaker" at the Ambassador Auditorium in Los Angeles with Charlton Heston, Lynn Redgrave and Hal Holbrook. She also has been seen on television on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" with her singing partner, Ann Jillian, and on the PBS pilot, "Living Dolls."
Deborah has taught voice and coached musical theatre and opera, both in Los Angeles and New York. She has served on the faculty of the American Center for Musical Theatre in Hollywood. She is presently the head of the Vocal Department at the Performing Arts Center in Northridge, which is overseen by award-winning choreographer, Joe Malone, who also serves as Artistic Director of the facility. She was awarded a Platinum Record for her work on David Lee Roth's album "Skyscraper". Her vocal clients have included pop stars, Bette Midler, Jennifer Warnes and Linda Ronstadt, and rock stars, David Lee Roth and Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes, among others.
Additionally, she is a lyricist for musical theatre, having collaborated on four libretti for four children's operas based on the fables of Hans Christian Andersen, "Prelude to a Fable", "The Emporer's New Clothes", "The Little Match Girl" and "A Love Charm". Deborah was co-producer of the critically acclaim ed National Tour and Los Angeles production of the "All Night Strut" presented at the Cinegrill (where she has also performed frequently) and the Tiffany Theatre in Los Angeles. She continues to produce the show on tour in venues throughout the West Coast. She co-wrote and co-directed the well-received musical revue, "Hollywood's Heyday" for the Welk Resort Theatres in Escondido, CA.
Deborah is the recipient of rave reviews for her work in musical theatre, both at UCLA and CSUN, and she received a scholarship to participate in the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera's Musical Theatre Workshop. While at CSUN, she studied with a wide range of vocal, pedagogic and coaching authorities, which helped her to meld her knowledge into an effective and practical approach to vocal studies and problem solving for singers.
