Prior to a national release, one of New York’s most critically acclaimed cabaret performers and St. Louis native, Craig Pomranz, is launching a jazz vocal CD in St. Louis in April. The CD -- “My Heart Don’t Skip A Beat” features jazz/saloon singing at its best, continuing the tradition of Sinatra, Bennett, Chet Baker, and more.
Sifting through thousands of his favorite songs, Craig narrowed down this collection to a selection ranging from the familiar, such as “I’ve Never Been In Love Before” with a new jazz beat, to a seldom-heard Peter Allen tune “I Never Thought I’d Break,” that Allen himself asked Craig to sing. Hailed as “the tenor of the times” (GQ Magazine) and “the best new male singer” (NY Post), Pomranz has made his musical mark on both the stage, clubs and in the studio. Craig got his start right here at the Muny Opera.
As a child, Craig performed in roles opposite the likes of John Cullum and Sally Ann Howes in “Camelot.” In addition to his solo performances, he has shared the stage with Barbara Cook, Betty Buckley, Ann Hampton Callaway, Karen Akers and Cissy Houston.
Pomranz is known for headlining at Manhattan’s most celebrated nightspots. “Working with live musicians in the studio has always been a dream,” Pomranz said, regarding his new CD. “With the advent of synthesizers and electronic equipment, albums are rarely produced like this any more.”
