Hair was the first musical of the Love and Peace generation epitomizing the sixties hippy teaching on war, theology, authority and sex. It was a theatrical breakthrough with its contentious opinions, colorful language and nudity combing with a wonderfully original score and lyrics and these songs gave hit records to Oliver, Nina Simone, The Fifth Dimension, Paul Jones and Three Dog Night. Many established performers launched their careers in HAIR, Oliver Tobias, Paul Nicholas, Annabel Leventon, Julien Clerc, Sonja Kristina, Ronnie Dyson, Elaine Paige, Marsha Hunt, Diane Keaton, Diane Langton, Judy Loe, Maxine Nightingale, Tim Curry, Peter Straker, Lynn Kellogg and Melba Moore.
This album is a compilation of the two Original London Cast recordings, Hair (1968) and Fresh Hair (1970). The show contains some thirty four titles, but when the initial recording was made in '68 it was impossible to cram them all on to one twelve-inch vinyl pressing. There was much debate as to which titles should be excluded and thus, after public demand Fresh Hair was conceived to resolve the problem of the missing titles. With the advent of CDs, the moon is now "in the seventh house and Jupiter has aligned with Mars" and this has allowed both albums of the London production to come together for the first time.
