Latin jazz violinist Susie Hansen is a long time favorite in Los Angeles. Susie and her ensemble of talented musicians have created a distinctive and original Latin Jazz and Salsa sound that brings you to your feet, dancing in the aisles. With her electric violin in the forefront, and some of Los Angeles' finest musicians in her band, the band's approach to the music is irresistible.
   The Chicago native has developed her own unique style by drawing on various forms of both jazz and Latin music. She utilizes traditional Cuban charanga, a predecessor of Salsa which features both violin and flute, along with traditional driving Afro-Cuban rhythms and the compelling harmonies of straight-ahead jazz.
   Susie has been featured as a soloist with the great Orquesta Los Van Van, Cuba's premier dance orchestra, both in Los Angeles and at El Palacio de /a Salsa in Havana, Cuba, for the opening night of Carnaval. She has recorded or appeared as a guest artist with Tito Puente, Vikki Carr, Orquesta Aragon, El Gran Combo, Sonora Poncena, Francisco Aguabella and Orquesta Broadway. Susie has released two well-received CDs on Jazz Caliente Records. The Susie Hansen Latin Band plays over 175 concerts and events every year.
