Dreams Askew, Dreams Anew

Dave Glasser has just released his second CD as a leader entitled "Dreams Askew, Dreams Anew" on Artemis Records. Of this CD Nat Hentoff writes: "This Glasser recording illuminates a further development in his life and his music. From the acappella opening of Thelonious Monk's 'Pannonica,' the music here is timeless." Glasser's first CD entitled "Uh! Oh!" on Nagel Heyer Records also received rave reviews. Of this CD Nat Hentoff writes: "In this recording, which establishes him as a world-class jazz improviser and composer-arranger, Glasser reveals why he has such a strong, memorable presence. He plays with remarkable clarity of sound, ideas, and swinging jazz time. On ballads, he is, to my ear, unequalled on alto these nights for natural warmth and singing lyricism."
Dave Glasser has recorded three CD's as a member of the Clark Terry Quintet and two as a member of the Count Basie Orchestra. He has been a member of the Clark Terry Quintet since 1995 and has performed extensively with the Count Basie Orchestra (under the direction of Frank Foster), Illinois Jacquet, and Barry Harris. As the lead alto and soloist with Illinois Jacquet, Illinois regularly introduced Mr. Glasser as "the finest alto saxophone player alive today!"
As an instructor, Mr. Glasser currently teaches Bebop Harmony and Applied Saxophone at the New School for Social Research in New York City. He was a faculty member of the Clark Terry International Institute of Jazz Studies in Le Mars, Iowa and has served as a clinician at numerous universities and high schools around the world.
Born and raised in New York City, Dave Glasser is a graduate of the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and the Arts. He received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York and has received extensive instruction from Barry Hams.
