Influenced by Jazz and Opera at an early age, native New Yorker, Joe Battaglia found time to pursue his dream of music while being involved in a successful family business. Joe studied with renowned teacher, Dr. Charles Colin and in later years with his son Allan.
While performing in and around the NY area and as soloist with Shirley Bassey in Germany, Chas Colin advised Joe to start his own big band to showcase his big brilliant sound. The birth of The New York Big Band led to much success performing at Lincoln Center, Tavern on the Green, The Russian Tea Room, The Supper Club, Hungtington Town House, and for politicians and celebrities such as Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Tony Randall, and Janet Carroll.
Joe Battaglia created the New York Big Band in 1996. His intention was to reintroduce the Big Band Swing of the 30's and 40's with a more contemporary feel for today. The result was the enthusiastic response of Generation X.
Joe hand picked musicians with impeccable reputations and experience. Band members performed with Tito Puente, Count Basie, Les Elgart, Stan Kenton, performed in Broadway musicals such as, Sound of Music, Chicago, Cabaret, to name a few. The result is the tremendous demand for the New York Big Band.
Acclaimed as one of the finest Big Bands in the Country today. The quality of this band is reminiscent of the big band era, with a repetoire including sophisticated dance, jazz, and latin music.
The band has had much success performing at New York's, Lincoln Center's Midsummer Night Swing, Supper Club, and political fundraisers. Most reccently for Hillary Clinton, Rudy Giuliani, and Barbra Walters. The band is consistently performing at the Rainbow Room and the Tavern on the Green in Central Park.
