Plenty Good Lovin'

Grammy winning Sam Moore first came to prominence as the “Soul Man” – the lead singer of legendary duo Sam & Dave, whose songs, “Hold On, I’m Comin”, “I Thank You”, “When Something Is Wrong” and “Soul Sister, Brown Sugar” climbed both the Pop and R&B charts internationally. Sam & Dave served as the inspiration for Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi’s Saturday Night Live parody The Blues Brothers, when they covered the duo’s 1967 million selling Grammy Winning “Soul Man” and exposed a new generation of fans to their music. Today, having earned his own legs, Sam has tremendous love and respect for what he created when he was “the voice” of the duo.
Sam Moore continues to perform and tour, repeatedly scoring critical acclaim for his work. Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame by Billy Joel in 1992, Sam was one of the headliners on the HBO special ‘live from Cleveland’ the opening of the hall of fame. Already booked that evening in Atlanta, Georgia, the producers wanted his participation so much they chartered a jet to bring him back to Cleveland to perform in that event. His performance earned a review and admonishment to the industry and the public from USA Today Edna Gunderson hailing him “soul’s under appreciated titan!” Artists from all genres of music including Don Henley, Bruce Springsteen, Phil Collins, David Sanborn. The Eurythmics, Travis Tritt, John Fogerty, Wynonna, Tom Jones, Elvis Costello and Pink Floyd have all sought out Sam for the opportunity to perform or record with him. The collaboration with country legend Conway Twitty, “Rainy Night In Georgia”, rode high on both the Country and Pop charts. Recorded for MCA Records platinum project Rhythm, Country and Blues, the song unfortunately became Twitty’s last work. The duet received critical acclaim, as well as, nominations for two Country Music Association Awards, a TNN Music City News Award and an Academy of Country Music Award.
Sam’s vocal capacity has enabled him to continue to grow as an artist. At the urging of his friend, the late Henry Mancini, Sam now performs with Symphonies and Pop Orchestras around the world. Sam was honored with a musical note on Memphis’ fabled Beale Street in 1997. Other events at which Sam has shined include the George Bush Presidential Inaugural Gala; The Olympic Torch Celebration; The Montreaux Jazz Festival; The Royal British Air Force’s 50th Anniversary; role in the movie “Blues Brother’s 2000”, the American Cinema Awards; Cannes. Sam was commissioned by the NBA’ Phoenix Suns to record and perform a special adaptation of Soul Man called “I’m a Sun’s Fan” for them to tie in to their 2000 playoff efforts. Sam achieved a personal goal in April 2000 when he performed at Carnegie Hall with Sting, Elton John, James Taylor, Tom Jones, Billy Joel and Ricky Martin for Sting’s Rainforest Fund Raiser. June 9th 2000, Sam was honored with the coveted “Living Legend” award presented at the music industry’s largest conference and showcases, ATM in Las Vegas.
In January 2002 his “Plenty Good Lovin, The Lost Solo Album” was released to critical acclaim in the UK/Europe/Japan and Canada. “Night of the Golden Eagle”, his 5th feature film is due out in April 2002 and AM co-hosts the PBS Special ‘R&B 40’ special that begins airing in March 2002. “Only the Strong Survive”, a Miramax documentary, featuring Sam premiers in June.
