Martina Laska lived in Queens, New York, attending Forest Hills High School and Queens College. Graduating with a BA in Anthropology, she moved to Massachusetts in 1985. Inspired by the natural beauty of the Berkshire mountains, Martina began to record and perform original music in 1990, resulting in the Nightingale album. Encouraged by the success of that album, she presented another album, Mountain Spirit, in 1999. She performed at local festivals, restaurants, B&Bs and private parties. Her music was widely appreciated for its "healing" themes. In 2005, after earning an M.Ed and while working for several years as a teacher, Martina recorded an album called Movin' On. "In my life, creativity always came after upheaval. As a culture, we are now reorganizing, regrouping and engaging ourselves in new ways as terrorism and gang activity threaten to take center stage. The songs on this album are a result of my own struggles to find peace in the new millennium. The themes are about contemporary and timeless human issues such as raising children in a dangerous world, dealing with gossip, recovering enthusiasm, reaching goals, experiencing the many facets of love and finding paths toward self-actualization in the face of ever-changing circumstances. Mostly, these songs are about passion and the triumph of creativity over fear". |
