With her newest recording, the marvelously talented Michele Anastasio takes us on a sentimental journey from the sock hop in the high school gymnasium, where all the guys want to slow dance with the girl in the pink, cashmere sweater, to the sophisticated nightclub where a chanteuse in a slinky, glittering dress plucks at our heartstrings, to the grand concert hall where an impeccable solo sends a transfixed audience erupting into a standing ovation.
   Michele is in top form with the 10-song "Covergirl" collection as her soaring alto-fresh as summer strawberries and smooth as sweet cream-moves effortlessly through remarkably inventive, jazz-flavored arrangements of classics from Patsy Cline's "Walking After Midnight" to the Beatles' "Norwegian Wood, " to the goosebump-invoking inspirational anthem "Hold My Hand, " written by Michele herself, and concluding with a virtuoso performance of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."
   Michele is one of those rarities in popular music when many lyrics are almost unintelligible. Michele caresses each word, each perfectly nuanced phrase, like a tender lover. An unquestionable romantic, she sings with style, grace, and a huge dose of intimate emotion. Her vocal range seems limited only by the listener's ears. She is one very gifted performer.
